However, with only $22. 5 million raised in half a year, it appears that this policy is less about generating revenue and more about making a symbolic statement.

The timing of the policy rollout was particularly poorly timed, given that international visits to the US fell 5. 5% in 2025, resulting in foreign tourists spending $14 billion less than in the previous year.
