All individuals are encouraged to contact law enforcement and seek medical treatment as soon as possible following an incident that poses a threat to safety or physical well-being or following a potential criminal offense.

Emergency medical assistance and campus safety and law enforcement assistance are available both on and off campus. The University will help any campus community member to get to a safe place and will provide transportation to the hospital, connect an individual to law enforcement, and share information about on- and off-campus resources and options for resolution.

Behavioral Health Services at Unified Clinics

Behavioral health treatment services are provided by therapists certified and licensed in the state of Michigan who have extensive training in the delivery of assessment, individual, group and family treatment services. Also serves as a training site for graduate-level health and human services students who provide treatment services under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Services clinical director.

Provides free, confidential counseling services to students only. Staff will not release information about a client to anyone without the written permission of the student client. Counseling intake is available during weekdays. Students are given counseling appointments or referred to community counseling resources after initial assessment and triage.

Early Intervention Team

The Early Intervention Team is a cross-functional team designed to promote student success, well-being and campus safety. This team engages in proactive and collaborative approaches to support students in distress (referred via the on-line ) and identify, assess and mitigate risks to individual students and the University community.

Addresses issues of sexual assault and other bias-related incidents (racism, homophobia, etc.) by providing a safe space for students and WMU employees to access support, healing art projects, reference materials and referrals to clinical, counseling and reporting services. The center works with survivors, friends of survivors or those wanting to know how to support survivors. The FIRE Place does not provide clinical or counseling services. Private, not confidential; information will be shared with the Title IX Coordinator.

Administers and oversees the University's nondiscrimination policy and other applicable policies and procedures, laws and regulations to promote equal opportunity, equity and access, and an environment that is welcoming and safe. Location of Title IX Coordinator with responsibilities for coordinating, facilitating and monitoring university-wide Title IX compliance and policy/procedure implementation, including timely response, access to resources and services, interim measures, investigations, remedies and resolutions, ongoing education, and prevention of all forms of sexual and gender-based discrimination, harassment and violence.
